How is Wellness Coaching different than working with a Personal Trainer, Nutritionist or Health Care Professional?

Unlike working with a professional whose focus is specifically directed at diet or exercise or a medical program, the Wellness Mapping 360 method I have been trained in does not prescribe, treat or teach.

How is coaching different from therapy?
Coaches Coach, they are  lifestyle behavioral change specialists.

Coaching deals mostly with a person’s present situation and seeks to guide them into a more desirable future.

With a coach, the relationship is a co-creative, equal partnership (coach helps clients discover their own answers).

The coach holds you as whole and complete.

The coach stands with you and helps you identify the challenges, works with you to turn challenges into wins and holds you accountable to reach your desired goals. The coach supports your well-being so you can learn and solve problems better, provides resources, promotes personal and professional development and growth, while addressing and recognizing the emotional aspect of life.
Therapists provide treatment.

Therapy deals mostly with a person’s past trauma, and seeks healing.

With a therapist there is a Doctor-Patient relationship dynamic (therapist has the answers).

The therapist diagnoses, then provides professional expertise and guidelines to give clients a path to healing.

What’s the distinction between Food Mentor and Health and Wellness Coach? Can I do both?

As Coach, I see you as the expert on you, I am your ally and guide. My role is to support and guide you in your process of discovery and sustainable lifestyle change.

As Food Mentor, I offer specific ideas, tips, techniques, instructions such as food preparation, combining, and recipes. This is a set of skills I have that relate to one aspect of Health and Wellness.

How do they work together?

If food is part of the lifestyle changes you desire and are choosing to include in the plan we devise together, it will clearly be a topic that comes up. Sometimes, during a coaching session I can momentarily change hats and make suggestions or offer information. For instance, if you need help with a recent diet change – getting used to it, discovering how to incorporate it into your lifestyle, routine and family life – I can help as Health and Wellness Coach.

If you desire more in-depth guidance in the form of becoming more savvy, skilled and efficient, we can arrange one or more Food sessions separate from your coaching to focus on and make headway in that area. Learn more about my Food Mentor services and contact me to set up your first session.
